Common Concerns About Working With a Personal Stylist

Are you considering working with me but feeling hesitant because of some niggling concerns? It’s an apprehension a lot of my clients initially have when they first make a booking. After all, you’re inviting me into your wardrobe, which is a very personal space with lots of emotions tied up in it.

Firstly, my role is to serve you and your needs. Every brief and client is individual; every solution is unique, and there is no cookie-cutter approach to your wardrobe. My job is to bring the magic, tips, and tricks, giving real-life practical guidance to your wardrobe with reference to your lifestyle as well as your physical appearance.

To help alleviate your worries and provide reassurance, I’ve addressed the top 10 common concerns I often hear:

  1. I’m worried you will judge my past purchases or style?

I approach each client with empathy and respect. I’m here to celebrate your uniqueness, not judge. My goal is to enhance your style, considering your preferences and comfort. After all you have bought every item in there for a reason, although it may not work or fit you the way it once did or how you intended it to, finding out why this is important as it helps us to move forward and for you not to make the same mistake again. I will always be honest and offer constructive feedback rather than judgment, we may have a giggle along the way too!

  2. My wardrobe is Small/A Mess/Embarrassing?

I've seen wardrobes of all sizes and stages of organisation. I'm here to offer support, not criticism. I will help you plan how to move forward with your wardrobe, not to criticise it.

  3. What happens if we don’t like the same things?

Communication is key. I take the time to understand your style, ensuring that my recommendations align with your preferences. Before we even meet, I will ask you to complete some ‘homework’ tasks to get you to really think about your style and what you want to achieve. To have a successful wardrobe that feels like you, it’s important that we first get to the bottom of what this is. The psychology of style and dressing is an integral part of what I do. My personal style and clothing choices may not be the same as yours and that’s absolutely fine. I’m not an influencer, my job isn’t to get you to where the same outfit that I do. My approach is to understand your unique style preferences and lifestyle, to ensure that the final result reflects you. I will not try to force my own style on you.

  4. Will you pushing me out of my comfort zone?

We all get stuck in ruts and I will gently encourage you to try styles and combinations that you will not have previously considered, but will always respect your boundaries. Although there may be things that I suggest that may not work for you, you will not be pressurised into buying anything (I don’t get commission!) or wearing pieces that you don’t feel comfortable in. It’s a process and a journey to allow you to experiment and try new aspects of your style.

  5. Will I still have control over my wardrobe choices?

Of course you will, your input is paramount. I work with you, ensuring every decision aligns with your vision. It's your style evolution, and your control is paramount. I am here to offer support and advice to address the issues that you are struggling with, it’s a very collaborative process and you are in control every step of the way. I am here to offer as much or as little support as you need. It may be that a one off Wardrobe Planning Session or Virtual Consultation will give you all the information that you need to go forward confidently, which is absolutely brilliant- good job done! Others require longer term help and assistance. How much or little work we do together is completely dependent on your needs and requirement, I’m here to help not to take over.

  6. Will you listen to me and my needs?

Absolutely, my priority is to get to know you and understand your needs. I use a number of different techniques to help us to identify what you need and would benefit from. I don’t just give you a list of rules to adhere to as I know this is not always helpful or easy to apply.

  7. Will it be expensive to work with you?

My pricing is transparent, outlined on my website. Offering value for money is important to me.

  8. Will you fully grasp the practicalities of my daily life or specific wardrobe needs?

This is my forte! I take pride in being able to really drill down into the core of what you really need, ensuring the my advice and recommendations are relevant, practical and fit for your day to day life.

  9. What support do you offer after we have worked together?

My commitment to you doesn’t end with your appointment. I always offer a free 30 minute review to see how you are getting on and to deal with any issues that may have arisen since we met. It’s really important to me that you are able to successfully implement everything we discussed and that you are happy with your new style direction. I can provide ongoing support, helping you integrate your new style seamlessly into your daily life.

  10. How long do sessions take?

My efficient styling process is designed to accommodate your schedule, whether you prefer in-person consultations or virtual sessions. I’m not good at waffle and like to ensure that our time together is utilised effectively so that you get the maximum benefit. An at home Planning Session takes around 4 hours, a Virtual Consultation around 2 hours.

  11. Will you post my photos online?

I prioritise discretion and confidentiality, which is why you won’t see before and afters on my website or social media. Whilst I often taken photos during the consultation, this is for my own records. Anything I do share on social media is with my client’s agreement whilst maintaining their confidentiality.
